SION
ROY:

HE’S QUIT SO MANY TIMES, WE CAN’T TRUST HIM NOT TO QUIT ON US.

When violent crime was surging, he quit on funding public safety. During his last race for elected office, he quit when the race became inconvenient for him. Now he’s skipping meetings as chair of the Santa Monica College Board in the wake of cuts and layoffs while running for State Senate.

We need a leader who won't quit.

This isn't a one-time mistake. It's a pattern:

2021:‍ ‍ During his run for Assembly, Roy quit when it became inconvenient.

2026: As Board Chair, Roy voted to lay off 70 employees during a crisis that critics say had “years of incompetent leadership" leading up to it. Then, while campaigning for the State Senate, he was absent for the April meeting.

2020:‍ ‍When murders spiked 20% Roy supported cutting public safety funding.

2025: Roy announces he’s running for State Senate while still in his SMC Board Chair term.

Sion Roy has shown us that when the going gets hard, he gets going
– and leaves his responsibilities behind.

HE QUIT ON PUBLIC SAFETY

Violent crime in LA was at a historic high. Murders increased by 20% – the highest in a decade. But instead of voting to keep us safe, Dr. Sion Roy supported making cuts to public safety funding as the official Democratic Party position.

Instead of putting LA families first, Roy gambled with our public safety to play politics.

And it didn't stop there.

Roy backed District Attorney George Gascón for re-election. Gascón was a disaster for public safety – that’s why families and neighbors defeated him with 60% of the vote.

HE QUIT HIS ASSEMBLY RACE

In 2021, Roy launched his campaign for State Assembly District 50 with big promises and major endorsements. He was building momentum. Then the race became inconvenient for him.

And he quit.

He disappeared.

This is who Sion Roy is: Someone who runs for office when it's easy and quits when it gets tough.

WHILE EMPLOYEES ARE
BEING LAID OFF, ROY’S CHASING HIs NEXT POLITICAL OPPORTUNITY

Despite pledging to serve his full term, in March 2025 – less than three years into his commitment as chair of the Santa Monica College board – Roy announced his candidacy for State Senate.

What’s worse, during his tenure on the board, Roy was at the helm as the college faced a financial crisis that critics called the result of “years of incompetence and failed leadership.”

He’s now missing board meetings while chasing his next political opportunity.

Roy only runs for office when it's convenient. He quit on our public safety. He chases the next political opportunity before finishing the job he promised to do.

Is this someone you can count on to represent you in Sacramento? Is this someone who will stay and fight for your community when times get tough?

We need a leader we can count on — Not a quitter.

His record says NO.
